Before I’d play golden music on my Fender guitar, I’d admire the stained wood and strings. Every day was the same: the moment I returned home from school, I sought an hour of solitude with my guitar. I’d grasp the fret-board, pulling it free from the magenta wall, right where the tuning mechanisms scratched my wall silver. My guitar chords always emitted a prismatic sound when I struck them against the grain with my pick before I sifted through the printed chords of my favorite songs and chose the one I’d play, sometimes over and over.
Some of us will reinvent ourselves several times over the course of a lifespan. Maybe you already have.

Autumn has always been one of my favorite seasons. With the crisp scents and bright colors who wouldn’t fall in love? But the changing season delivers more than just those cooler temps, scarlet hues and shorter days. It inspires a bounty of my favorite traditions in self care.
Indulging in the spell of the season, a culmination of color blankets the landscape inviting us to participate. With outdoor fires, hearty dishes and the cozy garments to keep us warm, there are plenty of ways to enhance our romance with fall.
According to Chinese Medicine, autumn is a worthy time to concentrate on the internal, nurturing of our body and mind by becoming more reflective. Embracing a season of mindfulness, releasing the negative burdens we are holding onto and allowing space for new experiences, all, which can bolster growth and generate gratitude, as we breathe into the season.
It was an evening in late September when I knew we were losing each other.
I knew we were forgetting. So I wrote. I wrote it all, I described every memory I had with him, laced with the most magical details. The nights we talked on the phone until sunrise, the secret promises we made in the drive-thru line, the summer days he carried me across the parking lot to get ice cream. I combed through my journal entries hoping I could find the moment — the moment it all started fading. As a hopeless romantic, a firm believer in fairytales and happy endings, I didn’t understand how the stars had become so scattered and desperately clung to the hope that I could put them back in line.
That night we sat on the kitchen counter eating takeout Indian food right up until our normal bedtime. When we began to yawn you loaded blankets and pillows into the truck and I made a pot of coffee with more beans than probably necessary.
We cozied into the front seat and sipped from our shared thermos, burning our lips on the edge. Your laughter kept wrapping around me like the warmth from a living room hearth. We listened to ‘90s hits and reminisced about high school and Pearl Jam albums. All the falling I’d been doing this year felt safely in the past as we drove.
