My favorite autumn tradition is taking a drive to Lacrosse, Wisconsin too see the autumn colors of the trees on the bluffs. Driving around the curve in the road, the Mississippi River and the autumn colors come into view and it takes your breath away! And a stop at the area’s apple orchard for a treat.

The colors of autumn remind me to slow down and enjoy nature at its glory, the colors are so vibrant, earthy, it makes me want to settle into the earth and enjoy each moment before winter takes its hold on all the color of this season. My camera is always busy this time of year. Can’t wait to get lost in the pages of the fall issue.

Taking an afternoon off with my dad, and climbing into his big ol’ blue truck to make a trip up to the cider mill. We always enjoy a cup or two of ice-cold apple cider fresh from the press, along with a soft, warm cinnamon sugar donut. We spend the afternoon admiring the fall colors, walking on the wooded trail by the river, and saying hello to the ducks and farm animals. We always come home with plenty of cider to share–and maybe serve hot with just a dash of spiced rum!

My favorite fall tradition is driving about 45 minutes away to a beautiful area called Apple Hill. Here I can drive winding country roads along which numerous apple ranches offer for sale their delicious fruit, homemade pastries, hand crafted wares, and delicious homemade fudge. It’s a place far away in setting from the hectic, rapid paced suburbs in which I live. I’ve been coming here since I was a young girl and I still make the yearly pilgrimage with my grown and almost grown children.

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I may rush it a bit, but right after Labor Day the fall decorations come out. I love the earthy colors and the way the house looks when finished. I set my fall candles around and can’t wait to taste anything pumpkin. Cooler weather, sweaters, scarves, and rides to enjoy the lovely foliage. Can’t wait!

Autumn has always been my favorite season because for one I’m a New Englander and the Fall colors are amazing. One tradition we have always done is apple picking and enjoying a warm apple dumpling with cold vanilla ice cream running down the sides. Then we pick outhe pumpkins to decorate with and to bake. It reminds me that a crackling fire with warm cider is not far away.

Here in coastal North Carolina, autumn doesn’t make much of an appearance — very little fall foliage, and sweater weather sometimes doesn’t start until November. So our favorite way to recognize that fall is here is to attend our little county fair in September. We spend the late afternoon and evening admiring the 4H-er’s beautiful animals, watching the tacky but ridiculously fun shows (bad Elvis impersonators? trained farm animals? tiny cars?), going on all the rides, playing midway games and — just this one day a year — eating the unhealthiest, most delicious food (fried Oreos! funnel cakes!). We try to win a silly prize and then give it to the first small child we see. There’s that certain fair smell — a mix of hay bales, animal poop, deep fried food, cotton candy and tractor exhaust — which somehow smells just perfect. After a sweltering summer, nothing beats the faintest hint of fall in the air and a rural county fair!

Out here in northern NM, we have an amazing array of events and beautiful places to visit year round, but in autumn, the smells and sights are just spectacular. The fall color out here is gorgeous and we take every advantage to enjoy it. One of our favorite traditions is going to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta which is filled with color, laughter, fantastic food, the smell of green chile roasting, and hundreds of hot air balloons lifting off into the clear, cold dawn. After that, my husband and I head off to the woods and enjoy a quiet walk, savoring the solitude, the smell of clean, crisp cool air filling our senses, the changing leaves blowing gently in the breeze. We watch some of them whirling gracefully to the ground all around us and the soft crunch under our boots as we tread over their memories. Then we return home in the evening, wrap ourselves in blankets, sipping hot cider or cocoa, and just talk while our fire pit roars to life.

Ohhh, how I love the crispness of the spiced Autumn air with the hint of woodsmoke! To walk briskly on a wooded path hearing the crisp colorful leaves and fallen twigs crunching and snapping underfoot. The cooler air causes me to feel invigorated as I soak in the waning days of warm sunshine like a sponge.
Later in the day, while snuggled within a blanket and sipping on a warm mug of cinnamon laced apple cider, I enjoy the fragile moments of Autumn’s splendor from our front porch. Honking from wild geese, frogs croaking and crickets chirping accent the serene sounds of soft winds whispering that Winter is soon to come whisking around the corner! These sacred moments in time thrill my heart warming me again and again during the long winter months here in Minnesota!
Reading the Autumn issue of BELLA GRACE in hand would add such a warm pleasure to the moments being savored!
Joyfully…Sandie Luck

My favorite autumnal tradition is walking in Central Park with my sister, Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand of course. Wearing a snuggly knitted sweater and a fresh pair of sneakers (who doesn’t love back to school shopping) there is nothing like the crisp weather after a humid summer!

My favorite fall tradition is going to the pumpkin patch as a family. We’ve been doing it ever since my daughters were born. We take pictures, pick our pumpkins, and feed the animals in the petting zoo. Each of us will find our perfect pumpkin to bring home and carve. My girls are 17 and 19 now and still look forward to the pumpkin patch every year. Of course, now that they’re older we usually incorporate a Starbucks trip on the way home 😉

My favorite autumn tradition is going to a nearby state park for a hike with the family. These days as my kids get older, they want to go out hiking with the family less and less, but I can always get them to go in the fall at least once.
