A Merry Watchlist: Holiday Movies We Love

One of the best parts of this time of year is curling up with a cup of hot chocolate and a tray of cookies to watch a festive movie. From classics like White Christmas to more modern releases like Love Actually, there are countless films that add a dash of holiday cheer to the season. Here is a list of some of our favorites. In the comments below, let us know what your recommendations are, too!

Holiday Movies We Love

1. While You Were Sleeping

This charming love story may not be technically classified as a “Christmas” movie, but December is certainly the best time of year to watch it! Follow Lucy (Sandra Bullock), as she unexpectedly spends Christmastime with a family that changes her life forever.

2. The Holiday

If you were going on vacation, would you prefer to visit Los Angeles or the English Countryside? Experience the romance of both in this delightful movie about two women who switch homes during the holiday season…and find love along the way.

3. Little Women

Nothing quite beats the coziness of Little Women (1994), a beautiful adaptation of the beloved classic by Louisa May Alcott. Celebrate the season alongside the March sisters with this timeless story.

4. It’s a Wonderful Life

The ultimate classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, is a true expression of the heart of the season. This film never ceases to remind us of how much we have to be grateful for.

5. Love Actually

Christmastime is all about love so it is only fitting to watch romantic movies during this time of year! Set during the holidays in London, this movie follows eight different couples navigating their love lives.

6. Meet Me in St. Louis

This Christmas musical released in 1944 stars the ever-so-delightful Judy Garland and of course, her beautiful rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”

7. The Man Who Invented Christmas

A more recent holiday movie, The Man Who Invented Christmas tells the story of how Charles Dickens wrote his classic, A Christmas Carol.

8. Miracle on 34th Street

Both the original and remake of this film are charming celebrations of Santa’s magic and the warm, fuzzy feeling of childhood Christmases.

Christmas in Connecticut is an awesome movie to watch, as well as white Christmas. I haven’t seen the man who invented Christmas yet so I will have to add it to my list.

My list consists of A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail. I’ve been known to watch Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve Got Mail again for New Years (much to my husband’s dismay). May your holidays be happy and filled with cheer.
